About John McLain
It all began in a small brick house on five acres in Oklahoma.
Listening to his dad pick an old Spanish guitar, John McLain's passion for performing was built in.
He got a guitar of his own, taught himself to play, and did the high school / college rock band
thing. Fun!
After college, he got married and moved to Texas and found himself neck-deep in radio -
as a morning DJ, music director, coffee maker, and bathroom cleaner. He also
began to perform in the theatre; shows like
The Sound of Music, The Music Man, Amahl &
The Night Visitors and
My Fair Lady He's also studied
improvisational theatre.
It seemed natural that his broadcasting and theatre acting backgrounds should one day join forces, but
he knew that there were many skills to be acquired in order to make the big leap into pro voice acting.
John made that leap with intense study with renowned coach and teacher
Nancy Wolfson of Braintracks Audio
in Los Angeles. She is still his coach today. He's also studied audiobook narration with accomplished
narrator, actor and teacher
Pat Fraley.
As a voiceover actor, John believes his voice is an instrument to be used like a paintbrush - building
powerful images in the mind and heart of the listener. His goal is always to find the inner voice of
the copywriter with all its color and emotion, and transmit it to the heart of the audience.
John earns
glowing reviews from his clients not only for his
performances, but also for the professional way he conducts himself through the relationship.
For fun, he still loves to sing and play - he has a studio full of guitars now! He also enjoys
riding his Harley-Davidson Road King Classic, around town or cross-country. John works from his
home studio near Phoenix, which is equipped with Source-Connect technology - enabling him to record
virtually anywhere.
